Rider Waite Tarot Deck August 26, 2010 Lorraine I have been using this deck for a number of years. Amazon prices are the best and as I was not in a hurray there was no delivery charge and it arrived safely and on the time specified. I was kept informed as the order was processed and was confident buying from Amazon. I have used Amazon many times now and have never been disappointed or worried about my purchase. The deck arrived sealed and boxed.
Tarot Cards August 15, 2010 FayJ My tarot cards arrived in perfect condition within a couple of days of me buying them.
Great attention to detail - but less to quality. July 5, 2010 FAMOUS NAME (UNITED KINGDOM)
Whilst these are probably the most famous Tarot Deck and almost always come highly recommended in books and literature when learning about the history of Tarot; in all honesty, you won't find them the best quality in terms of durability. For one; as with many other sets, they're not heavily coated in vinyl, and so will easily and quickly become soiled with a minimum amount of use... There's also an obvious lack of colour compared to some decks. Having said that though; they do make up for this (and here's the important thing) on detail. You will find far many more details in these than probably any other deck you will come across in terms of 'Reading' interpretations, and so from that point of view, they are still to be highly recommended - especially for beginners who might at first find it a little difficult to see the whole number of differing meanings and interpretations in other less detailed sets.
The 'Old English Tarot' deck which are more brightly coloured, enchanting and very durable (see my review for those) are also less 'in your face' and will probably appeal more to beginners - feeling a less intimidating set all round to start off with.
I have gone some years without a Rider Waite Deck, and so I no longer have my old set to compare these to, but I'm pretty certain (unless my memory is playing tricks) that the previous set were far batter quality and more durable. I'm almost certain they had a thicker vinyl coating to the finish. Despite both these decks appearing exactly the same in every other way, the previous set I had did cost me three times the price of these around ten years or so ago, and so I think we can perhaps safely say that these have been made with less attention to quality to reduce the price.
In the end, it will be whichever deck best suits your Reading ability or appeal, but as said earlier; you probably won't find a better set than these for detail - or the 'Old English Tarot' deck for quality and appeal..
It's in the cards! May 18, 2010 G. Dixon (Newcastle Upon Tyne) I got these cards after reading the reviews. And, yes, I like the depictions and style. I first purchased the Universal Rider Waite deck and they are my preferred deck still. It is strange that the Universal Rider Waite deck cards are glossy and individually feel quite thick and are excellent quality. The Original Rider Waite cards individually feel thin and flimsy yet the deck is much thicker and in comparrison are more difficult to hold and shuffle. After only a couple of days the deck has warped and bends in the middle, ie. if the deck is layed on a flat surface, they "tunnel". (additioninal comment added 6th June 2010; The cards have settled down and no longer tunnel and I'm getting astounding readings for people with these cards).
The colours and print on the cards is not as clear and vibrant as the Universal Rider Waite deck, but I think this actually adds to what I do like about the deck, which I will use, just not as often as the Universal deck.
Back to the Beginning May 17, 2010 Lisa J. Alsford (Gloucester, UK) I purchased these cards as a "back to the beginning" step. I have been reading Tarot for over 20 years now, and these cards form the basis of most of the cards out there. The cards are well known and the imagery is a foundation for more embellished decks. I am extremely pleased with my purchase, paying less than £10. The print quality is good, the cards are a good size and I would recommend them to anyone interested in the Tarot.
